How do I remove the lines where my furniture set?

Some people like to rearrange their furniture for the holidays, or change of seasons, or maybe they are changing furniture often.   If the furniture sits on top of certain types of carpet it may leave indentions when you go to rearrange. Then you may wonder how to remove the lines where the previous furniture set?

Will a carpet cleaning remove the indentations in the carpet?

No, cleaning the carpet will not always remove the indentions in the carpet.   Sometimes on a nylon carpet the fibers will “pop” back up with a good vacuuming or a good carpet cleaning.  There are times though that this will not be the case.  A carpet made with polypropylene (olefin) carpet where heavy furniture sat on it for an extended period of time will not bounce back like you would think it would.  These fibers will crush especially in a plush style carpet and will stay that way from then on.

What are other characteristics of polypropylene (olefin)?

A large amount of polypropylene (olefin) carpet is used in commercial applications today, usually as a looped or berber style carpet.  Polypropylene (olefin) has a low melting point so when things get drug over them the friction can create a burn or melting of the fibers that is irreversible.  This can happen in a commercial setting when heavy objects are drug across the carpet, when wheels on carts do not roll as designed, by improperly functioning vacuum cleaners, and other related things.  This fiber is also strong and abrasion resistant but lightweight.  It even floats in water and is often used for water ski ropes.  The fiber is also very stain resistant since the dye is added to it while it is in a liquid state before it is extruded into a fiber.
